A December to Remember....
In a month that is usually festive and merry and bright, I feel melancholy. I am excited to watch Hunter open his presents this year from Santa and spend time with my Family. I suppose the fact that as much as I try and make the Christmas normal as possible and keep the traditions alive. It is still going to be different and sad and with its fair share of tears. There already have been plenty -
I know I have some of the best family I could ask for, they support, they help, they care... With Zoolights, Christmas Lights, Christmas Eve (The first Christmas Eve that my Mom wont be cooking the lasagna), Christmas day- these traditions have a whole new meaning to me now more than ever before. I will make sure my kids have the same fun and exciting traditions that I enjoyed growing up. Will it be difficult, will there be some tears along the way? Yes... But it will be worth it when I get to see my sons eyes light up when he gets to see all the Christmas lights or when he opens the train he wanted on Christmas Morning.
This time of year is a bit tricky when you have two or more families that want to spend time with you. The fact is: that you cant! Sometimes you can, but not always. The biggest thing with any form of a relationship is compromise. Make sure one family understands what they are getting and that they need to be happy with that. When Kim's brothers had the genius idea to skip Christmas and spend the time in Vegas instead, I thought "are effing kidding me?" Do you hate your family that much you cant figure out how to split up the time. I understand the challenges and the pressure you may face from one family or the other, but there are only a couple times where you get to spend time with family and friends, you can go to Vegas any weekend or weekday you want - They actually never close, they are 24/7!
When you bring someone into your life that means so much to you. You want that person to understand and know what and how you feel. You want them to share in your life and why you are the person you are today. A huge part of why you are who you are today is because of your family - give your family the respect they deserve. They were the ones that changed your stinky ass diapers, they were the ones that put up with the sports events, the concerts, the calls from crazy ass ex-girlfriends.. So just remember that when you are opening that lovely sweater vest from Mom and Dad...
I hope everyone has a very special Christmas and Happy New Year...
Always~
